Constructor Institute of Technology Hosts High-Level Business Leader Event to Shape the Future of Innovation

Schaffhausen, 26 June 2025 – More than 50 distinguished leading figures from business, politics, and academia came together on 18 June at the Constructor Institute of Technology (CIT) for a high-level innovation event hosted by the Economic Promotion of the Canton of Schaffhausen. Under the theme “Let’s Innovate Together,” the event focused on strengthening regional innovation, fostering cross-sector partnerships and shaping a sustainable economic future. The agenda also included the presentation of the Makers Award 2025, which celebrates individuals and organizations making outstanding contributions to the business location Schaffhausen.

Mr. Dino Tamagni, Government Councilor of the Canton of Schaffhausen, opened the event and welcomed participants, reaffirming the canton’s strategic vision. “Over the past 25 years, the Schaffhausen business region has attracted numerous companies and investments. This success story must be developed further, especially in times of global change and increasing economic challenges”, he said. “That is why, since 2015, the Canton of Schaffhausen has pursued an innovation- and technology-oriented strategy in its economic development efforts – focusing on building ecosystems and strengthening the regional innovation base.”

The event highlighted Schaffhausen’s economic evolution – from a traditional industrial base in the 1990s to a vibrant innovation hub today. Amid global uncertainty, the canton continues to invest in strategic partnerships with universities and tech institutions to secure long-term competitiveness and resilience. The event’s focus was on strengthening partnerships with universities, research institutions and innovation initiatives to integrate cutting-edge research, talent, and scientific insight into the local economy.

As part of a global network of leading universities committed to pioneering innovation, CIT is central to this vision. In his keynote address, Dr. Philipp Rösler, Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors at both Constructor Institute of Technology and Constructor University, and former German Vice Chancellor, highlighted CIT’s expanding role as a leading educational and research institution in Schaffhausen. “The Constructor Institute is more than a place of learning – it is a platform for transformative innovation with tangible real-world outcomes,” said Dr. Rösler. “By working hand-in-hand with partners in the region and internationally, we are building a foundation for sustainable progress.”

Founded in 2019 in Schaffhausen by Dr. Serg Bell, the CIT offers pre-master’s, master’s, and PhD programs in computer science, software engineering, quantum technologies, and leadership. By attracting and retaining top talent, CIT makes a valuable contribution to the region. Looking ahead, planned expansions and investments are expected to generate new jobs and increase annual tax contributions, further strengthening the local economy. Additionally, CIT provides numerous opportunities for cooperation with Schaffhausen businesses, including in the fields of R&D, technology transfers and start-ups.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Makers Award 2025 - an initiative that recognizes individuals and organizations making exceptional contributions to the Schaffhausen business location. This year’s Makers Award was awarded to Mr. Ed Adamcik, President of Ascent Health Services, in recognition of his courage to lead change, and his commitment to the business location. He is an exceptional supporter of Schaffhausen as area of business and of living. His work exemplifies the type of future-facing thinking and execution that the region seeks to encourage and celebrate.

"The Makers Award is about more than recognition – it’s about championing those who turn bold ideas into real impact," said Mr. Christoph Schärrer, Head of Economic Promotion for the Canton of Schaffhausen. "By celebrating, we inspire others to take action, to actively ‘make the future,’ and to help shape the region’s innovation landscape.”

The evening concluded with engaging networking and an apéro, offering attendees the opportunity to connect, exchange ideas, and explore new opportunities for collaboration.
